Monday Jan 9th

So far we’ve talked a lot about living a life of purpose, but usually there is this thing that gets in between you and living the life God is calling you to live. Your past.

Read Philippians 3:13-14 and journal your thoughts.

Have you ever had things from your past haunt you? Maybe it’s something you did, maybe it was something that someone else did. Either way there is this thing in your life and its holding you back. The good news is that you are not the only one to have this problem. Paul (writer of most of the New Testament) had this same problem; he had a past that he’d probably like to forget. You see, before he met Jesus, Paul persecuted (killed) Christians. What are those things that haunt your past?

Have you ever noticed that when you are always focusing on your past, you don’t seem to notice where you are going? Verse 13 talks about reaching for what is ahead by not looking backwards. Paul is writing to a Greek area, and in this time the Greeks were big into athletics, races in particular. When you run a race do you run forwards or backwards? Seriously, try running backwards and not running into something. This is what we do when we try to step into the life God is calling us to live while focusing on our past.

Pray that God would begin to help you move past the things that are holding you back
