Read James 4:13 and journal your initial thoughts
Have you ever spent all of your time working towards some goal in the future? What was it and what affect did it have on everything that was happening around you?
Read James 14 and journal your thoughts
Kind of depressing, right? Our lives are like a vapor. Imagine a breath in the cold of winter, how it lasts for only a moment before it’s gone. James is saying that is like our lives, here for a moment and then gone. Not to go all Dr. Phil on you, but go ahead and journal how that makes you feel.
The question we have to ask is what are you going to do about it? Read James 15 and write down your thoughts
James is telling us that if we are to make the most of the time that we have. If we are to live a potent life, then we need to stop living for ourselves (See verse 13) and step into the life that God is calling us to live. In Verse 13 the motivation for going into town was to make money, for their own gain. This is not living potent lives, but selfish. James is calling us out to a higher standard of living. In order to live a potent life, James is saying that God’s calling needs to be our reason for the decisions we make. Write down some of the areas of your life where you haven’t been allowing God to shape your decisions
Pray that God would reveal the areas of your life that you should give over to Him, no matter how big or small
